AMAZÔNIA
drawn score for six singers/parts
Premiered on December 14, 2019, at Salle Maurice Fleuret, CNSM de Paris. Conductor: Henrique Cantalogo
The Amazon Rainforest
A natural heritage that harbors the greatest biodiversity on the planet
and the home of several peoples isolated from our society,
has suffered, since 2019, a series of fires, many of which were deliberately set.
Driven by economic motives—
such as logging, gemstone extraction, and above all, the creation of pastures for cattle—
these fires reached their most critical point on August 10, 2019,
the day that became known as
“The Day of Fire.”
This piece,
conceived and created at the end of 2019,
presents the sounds of this Forest,
sung through the bodies, voices,
and breaths
of a few singers,
in five episodes.
